Directors & Officers
Directors and Officers Liability (D&O)
D&O cover has been available in some form in the UK since the 1930s, but initially it was generally only purchased by companies with some US exposure. It began to become more popular in the 1980s as company legislation in the UK imposed increasing responsibilities and potential penalties on directors.
However, it did not enjoy widespread popularity until the early 1990s. This was mainly due to the introduction of the Companies Act 1990, which removed any doubt as to the validity of a D&O policy in respect of coverage of negligence, breach of duty or breach of trust.
